Katie Laird
Professor Katie Laird is a Professor of Microbiology in the School of Pharmacy and Head of the Infectious Disease Research Group at De Montfort University. She has a BSc (Hons) in Biology and obtained a PhD in applied microbiology in 2008. Her research is centred on the prevention of transmission of healthcare acquired infections including the development of novel antimicrobials. A particular focus of Professor Laird’s research is on the role of healthcare textiles as fomites. Recently her research emphasis has been on the potential transmission of coronavirus via textiles. She has extensive experience working with industry and her research is published and recognised internationally. Professor Laird is also a founder of “A Germ's Journey” (www.germsjourney.com), educational resources teaching young children about health hygiene globally.
